Hearing loss is permanent. You can't restore your hearing once it's lost, but you can save what hearing you have if you wear hearing protection. NYCAMH recommends hearing protectors with the highest Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) available, though a hearing protector with a lower NRR may be recommended for people who already have hearing loss.
